News release

Yarmouth Rural RCMP responded to a fatal house fire on Boudreau Rd. in Upper Wedgeport.

On November 16, 2022, at approximately 8:40 a.m., Yarmouth Rural RCMP, fire and EHS, responded to a house fire on Boudreau Rd. in Upper Wedgeport. While en route to the fire, RCMP officers were provided an update that a 73-year-old woman had been located inside the home by the first people on scene. The woman was removed from the home but she was unconscious.

When RCMP officers arrived at the scene, they woman still had not regain consciousness. Paramedics with EHS took over care, however the woman could not be resuscitated and was pronounced deceased.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and investigators determined that the fire was caused by an electric power tool spontaneously catching fire. The fire is not suspicious and the investigation has been concluded.

Our thoughts are with the victim's family at this difficult time.
