Yarmouth Municipal RCMP charge man with attempted murder

Yarmouth Municipal RCMP has charged a man with attempted murder after a stabbing in Yarmouth.

At approximately 1:35 a.m. on May 30, Yarmouth Town RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at an apartment on Main St. in Yarmouth. RCMP officers learned that a 19-year-old Yarmouth man had stabbed a 38-year-old Yarmouth woman at the apartment. The victim suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance. The 19-year-old man was safely arrested by officers at the scene and transported to the Yarmouth Rural RCMP Detachment where he was held in cells. The victim and suspect are known to each other.

William Wolf McChesney, 19, of Yarmouth, has been charged with:

  • Attempted Murder;
  • Assault with a Weapon;
  • Assault while Choking;
  • Overcoming Resistance to the Commission of an Offence;
  • Uttering Threats.

McChesney appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court and was remanded in custody and he will return to court today.

The investigation is continuing and is being assisted by the Yarmouth RCMP General Investigation Section and RCMP Forensic Identification Services.
