UPDATE on search for missing Lower Prospect man

September 26, 2022
Lower Prospect, Nova Scotia

News release

The 81-year-old man who was reported missing in Lower Prospect is believed to have been swept out to sea during Post-tropical storm Fiona.

On September 24, 2022, Halifax District RCMP responded to a report of a missing man. 81-year-old Larry Smith of Lower Prospect was last seen on the evening of September 23.

An exhaustive search was conducted and all search areas have been thoroughly covered. Led by the RCMP, the search for Mr. Smith was assisted by a Department of Natural Resources and Renewables helicopter, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and Halifax Search and Rescue.

While search efforts have been concluded based on the belief Mr. Smith entered the water, the file will remain open; new search activities will be considered should new information be received.

When someone goes missing, it has deep and far-reaching impacts for the person and those who know them. Our thoughts are with Mr. Smith's family at this difficult time.
