News release

One year ago, the RCMP took an important step to address workplace harassment and violence in the organization by establishing the Independent Centre for Harassment Resolution (ICHR). The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is committed to providing a safe and respectful work environment, free from violence, harassment and discrimination.

The ICHR is a centralized, independent unit that:

  • coordinates the resolution of harassment and violence occurrences (complaints) for RCMP employees
  • offers support to current and former employees who have been victims of work place harassment and violence
  • ensures ongoing compliance with the Work Place Harassment and Violence Prevention Regulations

Today, the ICHR released its first annual report. The report includes the considerable progress, achievements, and challenges experienced by the ICHR in its first year of operation.

Sustainable, meaningful change does not happen overnight, but we are confident that the ICHR's current and planned actions will show significant results for the RCMP.

The full report is available on our public website.

Quotes:

"The progress the ICHR has made so far is encouraging. I'm determined to continue this momentum, and make sure our harassment resolution process is trusted, effective and independent."

Amanda Nemer, Executive Director of the Independent Centre for Harassment Resolution
