Suspect charged in hit-and-run investigation

Thanks to information provided by the public, a Whitehorse resident has been charged related to a hit-and-run that took place in January, 2022.

At approximately 9:45 p.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022, police attended a collision near the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Lowe Street in downtown Whitehorse, YT. According to witnesses, a vehicle was stopped at the red light on Lowe Street and was struck from behind by the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle was then reported to have gone north on 2nd Avenue without stopping after the collision. The driver and only occupant of the vehicle that was struck had non-life threatening injuries in addition to significant damage to their vehicle.

In February 2022, police seized the vehicle believed to be involved in the collision. A search warrant was executed in order to collect evidence related to the investigation.

Harrup Singh, age 22 of Whitehorse, had a first court appearance on June 8, 2022. He has been charged with the following offences:

  • Dangerous operation causing bodily harm, section 320.13(2) Criminal Code; and
  • Failure to stop after accident causing bodily harm, section 320.16(2) Criminal Code.
