On February 17, 2022, at approximately 6:50 pm, Stonewall RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle travelling on Highway 7, in the wrong lane of traffic. Officers immediately began making patrols.
A few minutes later a 911 call came in reporting a four vehicle collision on Highway 7 near Highway 323, involving the vehicle that was travelling in the wrong lane of traffic.
The initial investigation has determined that a white truck travelling south in the northbound lane on Highway 7, collided with a vehicle going north, which caused a chain reaction. The collision involved three northbound vehicles and the white truck.
The driver of the white truck, a 66-year-old male from Peguis First Nation, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A 64-year-old male driver from Fisher River Cree Nation, was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was driving one of the other vehicles involved in the collision.
Three adults and a child from the other vehicles involved, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Stonewall RCMP, along with assistance from the Criminal Collision Investigation Team, and a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
