On May 28, 2022, at approximately 1:10 a.m., La Loche RCMP received a report of an injured individual being transported by private vehicle to hospital.
Officers and EMS immediately responded and located the vehicle on Garson Lake Road. The individual was pronounced deceased by EMS. He has been identified as a 49-year-old Ryan Piche from Clearwater River Dene Nation. His family has been notified.
Investigation by La Loche RCMP and Saskatchewan RCMP's Major Crime Unit has determined an altercation occurred at a residence in Garson Lake. As a result, Melissa Laprise from La Loche was arrested on May 28 and charged with one count, second degree murder, Section 235(1), Criminal Code. She will appear in court in La Loche on May 30, 2022
