Roblin RCMP officer struck by fleeing vehicle

On July 16, 2022, at approximately 7:45 pm, a RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle at a campground on Highway 83, in Roblin.

At the time of the stop, the driver was outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was not registered and when the officer advised the driver it would be towed, the suspect got into the vehicle, reversed at a high rate of speed, and struck the officer. The vehicle then fled the scene.

The officer was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

On July 17, the suspect turned himself in to police and was arrested.

Matthew Paul, 31, of San Clara, Manitoba, has been charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer with a Weapon, Flight from Peace Officer and Failing to Stop after an Accident.

He was released by the courts with conditions.

Roblin RCMP continue to investigate.
