News release

Red Deer RCMP returned a stolen plaque to the City of Red Deer's Parks and Public Works department.

The plaque was recovered by Red Deer RCMP during a stolen vehicle operation on June 7, 2022. RCMP arrested a male for operating a vehicle with a stolen license plate and, following a warrant to search the vehicle, they found the stolen plaque in the trunk.

"This highlights a small part of the successes we are seeing form the hard work of our Crime Reduction Team," said Staff Sargent Karyn Kay. "The Crime Reduction Team focuses on emerging crime trends and community issues, including that of plaques stolen from public spaces and memorial benches."

The Red Deer RCMP's Crime Reduction Team (CRT) focuses primarily on property crimes and the investigation of repeat offenders. CRT interacts and works closely with a wide range of clients and partners, and uses a variety of crime prevention, suppression and apprehension tactics to respond to the unique needs of each community.
