RCMP Traffic Services West continues impaired driving enforcement with two recent arrests

RCMP Traffic Services West is continuing the enforcement of impaired driving with two recent arrests for impaired driving offences.

At approximately 11:15 a.m. on November 15, 2022, an officer conducted a traffic stop on Grove Street in Stephenville Crossing. The driver, a 66-year-old Stephenville Crossing man, showed signs of alcohol impairment and failed a roadside breath test. He was arrested for impaired driving, was transported to the detachment and provided breath samples that were above the legal limit. He was released from custody and is set to appear in court at a later date to face charges of impaired driving. The man's driver's licence was suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on November 16, 2022, an officer conducted a traffic stop on First Avenue in Deer Lake. The driver, a 40-year-old Corner Brook man who was suspended from driving, showed signs of drug impairment and failed roadside sobriety tests. He was arrested for drug impaired driving. Following his arrest, police located a firearm, a quantity of drugs, cash, and other evidence of drug trafficking, inside the vehicle. The man was transported to the detachment where he submitted to a Drug Influence Evaluation. He was released from custody and is set to appear in court at a later date to face charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking, impaired driving and driving while suspended. The investigation is continuing with other charges possible. His licence was further suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded.
