News release

A 43-year-old Mount Pearl man, who was stopped on Pitts Memorial Drive by RCMP Traffic Services East last week for travelling 160 km/h, is set to attend court for failing to comply with a drug-impaired driving demand.

During the early afternoon of November 3, 2022, a RCMP officer, who happened to be in the area, came upon the speeding vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver showed signs of drug impairment and was provided a demand to complete roadside sobriety testing. The man refused to do so and was served an appearance notice for a future court date. In addition to being ticketed for the excessive speed, the driver now faces a criminal charge of refusing to comply with a demand. His license was suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded.

RCMP NL continues to fulfill its mandate to protect public safety, enforce the law, and ensure the delivery of priority policing services in Newfoundland and Labrador.
