Update, August 2, 2022: The 25-year-old woman that police were looking for in connection with this incident has been located. The RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance.

The Caledonia RCMP is seeking the public's help with locating a person of interest in connection with an investigation into a suspicious house fire in Fawcett Hill, N.B.

On July 18, 2022, at approximately 8:45 a.m., members of the Caledonia RCMP detachment responded to a report of a house on fire on Wilson Road. When police arrived at the scene, members of Petitcodiac Fire Rescue and Havelock Fire Rescue were attending. A 32-year-old man was being treated by Ambulance New Brunswick paramedics. He was transported to hospital with severe injuries. Initial information indicated that the man was the sole occupant of the house at the time of the incident.

Through their investigation, police learned that the fire would have been set intentionally by an individual, who had fled the scene before police arrived. Based on that information, the fire was deemed suspicious.

Later the same day, while attending an unrelated matter, a member of the Codiac Regional RCMP detachment obtained evidence in connection with the Caledonia RCMP's investigation. Based on the evidence obtained, police identified a person of interest in connection with the investigation. Police are looking to speak with a 25-year-old woman, known to be of the Riverview area.

Members of the Office of the Fire Marshal attended the scene and are assisting with the investigation, as well as members of the New Brunswick RCMP's Major Crimes Unit and Southeast District RCMP's Forensic Identification Services. Members of the Department of Justice and Public Safety also assisted.

Anyone with information on the woman's whereabouts is asked to contact the Caledonia Region RCMP at 506-387-2222. Police are also interested in speaking with anyone who witnessed the incident at the home on Wilson Road, or who has information about the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
