RCMP NL continues impaired driving enforcement across the province, multiple arrests this past weekend

This past weekend a number of drivers were arrested for impaired driving violations by RCMP NL, two on Friday, two on Saturday and one on Sunday.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday evening, a 22-year-old man was stopped by Gander RCMP on the Trans-Canada Highway in Gander. Approximately an hour later, a 27-year-old woman was stopped by Bay Roberts RCMP in Spaniard's Bay. Both drivers failed roadside breath tests, were arrested for impaired driving and were transported back to their respective detachments, providing breath samples that were above the legal limit.

On November 26, 2022, two drivers involved in separate traffic collisions were arrested for impaired driving. The first occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Saturday. A 25-year-old male was arrested for impaired driving after crashing a vehicle along Harris Avenue in Grand Falls-Windsor. At approximately 8:30 p.m., a second driver, a 58-year-old man, was arrested for impaired driving by Twillingate RCMP after rear-ending another motorist on Route 340 near in Summerford. Both drivers showed heavy signs of alcohol impairment and each provided breath samples that were more than twice the legal limit.

At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, a 43-year-old man was stopped by RCMP Traffic Services West in Deer Lake. The man failed a roadside breath test, was arrested for impaired driving and provided breath samples back at the detachment that were above the legal limit.

All five drivers were released from custody and are set to appear in court at later dates to answer to impaired driving charges. Police seized and impounded each vehicle and all drivers received a licence suspension.
