The RCMP is leading an investigation, in partnership with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, into the death of a 61-year-old man of St. John's who went overboard from a pilot boat outside St. John's Harbour. The boat was meeting a vessel coming into port. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded after receiving the report at 12:30 a.m. this morning, September 27.
The RCMP was engaged and is now leading the investigation as it has jurisdiction in Canadian territorial waters. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada, Occupational Health and Safety and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are also engaged.
