Cambridge Bay, Nunavut

News release

On July 13, 2022, the Cambridge Bay RCMP charged a 46-year-old male with two counts of unlawful sale of liquor under the Liquor Act, section 84. The male is to appear in court on September 13, 2022.

The first offence under this section has a punishment of a fine between $5,000 and $25,000 and/or imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year.

Recognizing that the illegal and indiscriminate sale of liquor is causing substantial harm to the community, including the death of a youth in February, the RCMP in Cambridge Bay is focused on the identification and prosecution of bootleggers in the community.

The RCMP wish to encourage the communities to continue to report suspicious activity by contacting their home RCMP detachment or by calling Crime Stoppers at toll-free 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), submitting a secure web tip at www.nwtnutips.com or text 'NWTNUTIPS' plus your message to 274637 (CRIMES).
