News release

Following a joint investigation by the RCMP and RNC in Corner Brook in relation to a number of recent break and enters in the Corner Brook and Steady Brook areas, 29-year-old Travis Byrne was arrested on January 8, 2022.

At approximately 4:15 a.m., on January 8, 2022, Corner Brook RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter into the North Atlantic Orange Store in Steady Brook. Officers attended, confirmed the property was broken into and obtained surveillance footage showing a suspect and vehicle. Patrols were made and a vehicle matching the description was located shortly after 7:30 a.m. A traffic stop was conducted and Byrne, who was breaching a curfew condition, was located inside the vehicle wearing clothing matching the surveillance footage. He was arrested for break and enter and breaching his curfew.

The RNC in Corner Brook had responded to a report of a break and enter at a commercial property on Confederation Drive just prior to this incident. Both police forces worked together and determined that Byrne was involved in that break and enter, as well as another that occurred at a commercial property in Curling on January 7, 2022.

Byrne is charged with two counts of break and enter and theft and six counts of breach of a release order. He made a court appearance on Sunday and was remanded into custody. He attends court again today.

A second man located in the vehicle was also arrested and released. Charges are pending against that individual.
