Portage la Prairie RCMP make arrest after break-in and assault

News release

On October 14, 2022, at approximately 11:05 am, RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion at a residence on 13th Street NW in Portage la Prairie.

A male suspect gained entry to an apartment and when the residents confronted him, they were assaulted. A 72-year-old female and a 64-year-old male received minor injuries.

The suspect demanded money and left the scene on foot.

A description of the suspect was obtained and an officer patrolling in the area located him a short distance away. A foot pursuit ensued, however the suspect was quickly taken into custody.

It was found that the suspect had also attempted to gain entry to another apartment.

Garrett Pashe-Longclaws, 24, has been charged with:

Robbery with a Weapon x2
Breaking and Entering x2
Assault with a Weapon
Assault
Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
Possession of a Prohibited Weapon

He was remanded into custody.

Portage la Prairie RCMP continue to investigate.
