Ponoka RCMP seize gun and drugs during suspicious person investigation

On April 23, 2022, Ponoka RCMP received a complaint of a suspicious person outside a rural residence in Ponoka County. Upon arrival, RCMP located the male hiding under a nearby vehicle. The male was placed under arrest. Upon searching the male and his vehicle, RCMP located the following:

  • A 12 gauge shot gun
  • A Radio Jammer
  • A stolen licence plate
  • Approximately 28 grams of suspected Methamphetamine
  • Canadian currency
  • Other items consistent with drug trafficking

RCMP have charged a 26-year-old individual of Calgary, with 20 offences relating to drug trafficking, possession of stolen property, weapons, and failing to comply with release conditions.

The individual was remanded in custody with his next court appearance set for April 26, 2022, at Wetaskiwin Provincial Court.

"This reported suspicious activity is yet another excellent example of our police officers and the members of the communities we serve working together towards the common goal of crime reduction in our area. This call made to police played a key role towards maintaining public safety by removing drugs, weapons, and money related to criminal activities from the street. Public safety is a community issue and Ponoka Detachment remains committed to making it our top priority by continuing to work alongside the community members we serve in order to help reduce crime," said sergeant Erin ST-CYR of the Ponoka RCMP.
