News release

Whitehorse RCMP is informing the public of an on-going sexual assault investigation. Any additional victims or witnesses are encouraged to reach out to police or seek assistance from community resources.

This investigation began in March 2022, when Whitehorse RCMP received a report that a woman was sexually assaulted during the summer of 2021 while receiving a massage at Whitehorse Massage Therapy Clinic.

On May 5, 2022, Brian Zink, age 26 of Whitehorse, was arrested and charged for sexual assault related to this investigation. Mr. Zink was released after a first court appearance on May 6, 2022. One condition of his release is that he is not to advertise or perform massage services for humans.

The Yukon RCMP Specialized Response Unit is assisting Whitehorse RCMP in the investigation. Police believe that there may be more people who have been victimized. Investigators ask that anyone with information contact the Whitehorse RCMP or reach out to a support service available in the community.

Mr. Zink's employer, Whitehorse Massage Therapy, was cooperative throughout the investigation.

It can be difficult to come forward and speak about sexualized assaults. Police and other partner resources want those who have been victimized to know that there are resources available to assist, whether that means speaking with police or with another ally in the community.

If you or anyone who know has been a victim or a witness to this or any other sexualized assault investigation, the following resources are available in Whitehorse:

  • SART: The Yukon's Sexualized Assault Response Team (SART) provides a safe and confidential network of services that focus on needs and choices. SART is available to people of all of sexualized assault of all genders, ages, and sexual orientation who have survived a sexualized assault, to guide the process or be an ally.
  • Victims Services: Victim Services provides services and help for victims dealing with a range of different crimes, regardless of whether or not the victim has reported the crime, a charge has been laid, or there has been a conviction.
