Update - Oxford House RCMP respond to shots fired

On August 2, 2022, Keenan Grieves, 22, of Bunibonibee Cree Nation, was arrested in relation to the shooting incident on July 31. He has been charged with:

  • Discharging a Firearm with Intent x4
  • Assault with a Weapon x4
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Using a Firearm in the Commission of an Offence
  • Careless Use of Firearm
  • Pointing a Firearm x4
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court today.

On July 31, 2022, at approximately 9:30 pm, Oxford House RCMP received a report of shots fired by the East Back Lake Graveyard in Bunibonibee Cree Nation, Manitoba. Officers responded immediately, at which time a second report came in that three male victims had been dropped off at the Nursing Station with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. A short time later, a fourth male came to the Nursing Station with injuries.

Initial investigation has determined that a number of people had met up at a pre-arranged time and location, and an altercation ensued, with injuries resulting. The injured males, aged 28, 26, 17, and 16, have been transported to Winnipeg hospital and remain there in stable condition.

Police do not believe this is a random incident.
