On October 17, 2022, at approximately 1:40 pm, Norway House First Nations Safety Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle driving erratically on the Kinosao Sipi Cree Nation.
The suspect vehicle failed to stop and eventually drove into the ditch where the driver fled on foot.
Officers pursued the suspect who was located, with the assistance of several bystanders, hiding in a closet of a nearby home. He was arrested without incident.
A search of the vehicle and the suspect resulted in the seizure of approximately 101 grams of cocaine and over $13,000.00 in cash. The approximate street value of the drugs in the community is estimated at $12,000.00
The suspect, a 34-year-old male from Winnipeg, attempted to deceive officers by providing multiple names but was eventually identified and found to have an outstanding Warrant of Arrest out of Winnipeg.
Sean-Leo Monchalin was remanded into custody on numerous charges including Theft of a Vehicle, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling, Identity Fraud and Operation of a Conveyance while Impaired by Drug.
This is the fourth significant seizure of drugs in the community in the past three weeks resulting in the seizure of over 350 grams of cocaine, 330 rocks of crack cocaine, two loaded 9mm handguns and over $38,000.00 in cash.
