News release

Manitoba RCMP officers responded to three separate vehicle fatalities over a 12-hour period this weekend.

At approximately 4:25 pm, on December 31, 2021, Blue Hills RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision in the westbound lane of Highway 1, west of Alexander at the intersection of Road 129 W, in the RM of Whitehead.

The investigation has determined that a westbound pickup truck, being driven by a 43-year-old male from the RM of Wallace-Woodworth, collided with another westbound vehicle being driven by a 64-year-old female from Sioux Valley Dakota Nation. The 64-year-old female was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The 56-year-old male passenger in her vehicle, also from Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

Later that evening, at approximately 10:55 pm, Dauphin RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 10, four kilometers south of Dauphin at the intersection of Road 142 N, in the RM of Dauphin.

Officers have determined that a northbound SUV collided with another northbound vehicle. The collision pushed the vehicle that was struck from behind into the ditch where it rolled. The 35-year-old male driver, from St. Theresa Point First Nation, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased on scene. The 70-year-old male driver of the SUV, from the RM of Dauphin, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

At approximately 2:45 am, on January 1, 2022, Berens River RCMP received a report of a single vehicle rollover that occurred near the bridge located on the main road in the community.

It is believed that the vehicle was heading southbound on the main road when the vehicle lost control, drove off the embankment and rolled onto the ice. The 22-year-old male driver, and lone occupant, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased on scene.

Manitoba RCMP, along with Forensic Collision Reconstructionists, continue to investigate all three of the fatal collisions.
