Manitoba RCMP Monthly Police-Reported Crime Statistics – May 2022

Calls for Service - May 2021 to May 2022:

East District: -13% (6,607 to 5,722)

West District: -16% (4,596 to 3,872)

North District: 14% (5,590 to 6,399)

Overall, the Districts' occurrence counts (combined) decreased by 5% (from 16,793 to 15,993), with Manitoba West District experiencing the largest decrease of 16% and Manitoba North District having an increase of 14%.

During May 2022, there were decreases in all categories, except Crimes against Property which experienced increases in all Districts.

Manitoba East District

During May 2022, Manitoba East District reported decreases in all categories, except for Crimes against Property over the same period in 2021. The following increases and decreases are being highlighted:

Common Police Activities

This category had a very minimal decrease overall by 1% (870 to 863); of note specifically, Wellbeing Checks were up 48% (102 to 151), while Suspicious Person/Vehicle/Property decreased by 25% (346 to 258).

Crime against Person

Overall the category decreased by 22% (479 to 374 occurrences). Assaults decreased by 10% (261 to 234) and Robbery/Extortion/Harassment/Threats were down 12% (125 to 110).

Crime against Property

Property crimes overall increased by 15% (832 to 954). Fraud increased 54% (50 to 77), Theft under $5,000 increased 34% (173 to 232) and Break and Enters increased by 27% (95 to 121), while Theft over $5,000 increased 38% (80 to 110).

Drug Enforcement

Overall Drug Enforcement decreased by 50% (58 to 29), and specifically, Trafficking was down 70% (33 to 10).

Manitoba West District

During May 2022, Manitoba West District reported decreases in all categories, except Crimes against Property. The following increases and decreases are being highlighted:

Common Police Activities

This category decreased overall by less than 1%, with the largest decrease in Persons Reported Missing down by 16% (62 to 52) while the largest increase was in Wellbeing Checks up 23% (88 to 108).

Crime against Person

Crime against Person decreased overall by 11% (381 to 339) with a 23% decrease in Sexual Offences (48 to 37) and a 25% decrease in Robbery/Extortion/Harassment/Threats (126 to 95).

Crime against Property

There was an overall increase of 25% (585 to 732) and specifically, Theft over $5,000 increased 117% (36 to 78), Theft under $5,000 increased 43% (132 to 189), and Break and Enter increased 41% (69 to 97).

Drug Enforcement

Overall the category decreased 35% (62 to 40) with Trafficking down 40% (43 to 26).

Manitoba North District

During May 2022, over May 2021, Manitoba North District reported decreases in all categories, except for Crimes against Property. The following increases and decreases are being highlighted:

Common Police Activities

The category was down overall by 17% (1003 to 829) with the largest decrease seen in Breach of Peace occurrences which were down by 24% (521 to 398) and similarly, Assistance to General Public was down by 23% (100 to 77).

Crimes against Person

Overall this category decreased minimally by 2% (934 to 913) where the largest decrease was in Sexual Offences down 39% (64 to 39).

Crime against Property

Overall this area increased 35% (from 933 to 1259 occurrences), where Fraud increased 47% (15 to 22) and Mischief increased by 44% (706 to 1016); however, Break and Enters decreased 14% (80 to 69).

Drug Enforcement

Drug Enforcement in the North decreased overall by 55% (69 to 31) while Trafficking occurrences decreased by 56% (48 to 21) and Possession occurrences decreased by 50% (14 to 7).
