Manitoba RCMP Monthly Police-Reported Crime Statistics – March 2022

Calls for Service – March 2021 to March 2022:

East District: - 13% (6,607 to 5,722)

West District: - 6% (4,596 to 3,872)

North District: +14% (5,590 to 6,399)

There were decreases in all categories reported in both West and East Districts while North District had increases in all categories except Drug Enforcement, in March 2022 over March 2021.

Manitoba East District

During March 2022, Manitoba East District reported decreases in all categories over the same period in 2021. The following increases and decreases are being highlighted:

Common Police Activities

There was an overall decrease of -7% (738 to 689) over March 2021, with the largest decrease seen in Suspicious Person/Vehicle/Property from 276 to 182 (-34%), while there was a notable increase in Wellbeing Checks up from 102 to 147 (+34%).

Crimes Against the Person

This category had an overall decrease from 526 to 359 (-32%), with decreases in Robbery/Extortion/Harassment/Threats down from 142 to 85 (-40%), and Assaults which decreased from 308 to 243 (-21%).

Crimes Against Property

There was a decrease overall from 864 to 790 (-9%) with the largest decrease in Arsons down from 8 to 1 (-88%). Theft under $5,000 increased from 154 to 207 (+34%) and Theft over $5,000 increased from 66 to 75 (+12%).

Drug Enforcement

Drug enforcement had an overall decrease from 50 to 33 (-34%), specifically, Possession was down from 14 to 8 (-43%).

Manitoba West District

During March 2022, Manitoba West District reported decreases in all main categories. The following sub-category increases and decreases are being highlighted:

Common Police Activities

This category had an overall decrease from 569 to 459 (-19%), with the largest decreases in Suspicious Person/Vehicle/Property down from 232 to158 (-32%) and Breach of Peace down from 146 to 98 (-33%) while Wellbeing Checks increased from 67 to 83 (+24%).

Crimes against the Person

Overall, the category decreased from 381 to 346 (-9%) with a 15% decrease in Assaults (down from 232 to 198).

Crimes against Property

Crimes against Property had a very minimal decrease overall from 550 to 547 (-1%). Theft under $5,000 increased from 112 to 136 (+21%) and Fraud increased from 64 to 71 (+11%) while Theft over $5,000 decreased from 42 to 29 (-31%).

Drug Enforcement

Overall Drug Enforcement decreased from 62 to 34 (-45%) with a notable decrease in Trafficking down from 42 to 17 (-60%).

Manitoba North District

During March 2022, over March 2021, Manitoba North District reported increases in all categories, except for Drug Enforcement. The following increases and decreases are being highlighted:

Common Police Activities

Overall increase of +8% (875 to 944) with the largest increase in Wellbeing Checks up from 117 to 147 (+26%), Assistance to the General Public was up from 85 to 99 (+16%) and Persons reported Missing also increased from 151 to 172 (+14%).

Crimes Against the Person

Overall there was an increase from 881 to 992 (+13%). Assaults were up from 646 to 770 (+19%) while Sexual Offences decreased from 63 to 38 (-40%).

Crimes Against Property

There was an increase overall from 859 to 1249 (+45%), with Arsons increasing from 4 to 10 (+150%), Theft over $5,000 increasing from 14 to 31 (+121%), while Possession of stolen goods decreased 67% (from 12 to 4).

Drug Enforcement

Overall the category decreased from 66 to 53 (-20%) with Possession specifically decreasing from 15 to 9 (-40%).
