Manitoba RCMP Monthly Police-Reported Crime Statistics – January 2022

News release

Calls for Service - January 2021 to January 2022:

East District: -13% (7,009 to 6,754)

West District: -9% (4,756 to 4,607)

North District: -10% (5,200 to 5,889)

Calls for Service decreased by 11% (from 14,342 to 12,750), with Manitoba East District experiencing the largest decrease of 13% and Manitoba West District having the smallest decrease of 9%. All Districts reported decreases in all categories, with the exception of East and West Districts reporting increases in Property Crimes in January 2022 over January 2021.

Manitoba East District

During January 2022, Manitoba East District reported decreases in all categories, except Crime Against Property for the same period in 2021. The following increases and decreases are being highlighted:

Common Police Activities

While there was an overall decrease of 7% over January 2021 in this category, Wellbeing Checks increased 69% (88 to 149). Person Reported Missing decreased 47% (58 to 31).

Crimes Against the Person

The Crimes against Person category decreased by 25% (423 to 316) and specifically, the Assaults sub-category decreased by 27% (272 to 199).

Crimes Against Property

This category had a minimal increase overall of 5% (696 to 728). The largest increases were: Possession of Stolen Goods up 64% (from 22 to 36), Theft over $5,000 increased 46 % (from 63 to 92), Break and Enter increased by 25% (from 80 to 100), while Fraud decreased 27 % (from 73 to 53).

Drug Enforcement

There was an overall decrease from 61 to 28 occurrences (-54%), along with decreases in Possession, down from 21 to 12 (-43 %), and Trafficking down from 36 to 14 (-61%).

Manitoba West District

During January 2022, Manitoba West District reported decreases in all categories, except Crimes against Property. The following increases and decreases are being highlighted:

Common Police Activities

This category overall had a decrease from 536 to 462 (-14%), with the highest individual decreases in Suspicious Person/Vehicle/Property down from 167 to 120 (-28%) and Breach of Peace down from 165 to 104 (-37%).

Crimes against the Person

Overall there was a decrease of 6% in this category (279 to 262). Sexual offences decreased by 50% (24 to 12) and Assaults decreased 5% (156 to 148).

Crimes against Property

Overall the category saw an increase of 11% (489 to 543), Theft under $5,000 increased from 94 to 135 (+44%), Break and Enters increased from 88 to 113 (+28%), and Theft over $5,000 increased from 40 to 46 (+15%). Fraud decreased from 61 to 46 (-25%).

Drug Enforcement

Overall decrease from 48 to 32 (-33%), and specifically, Possession decreased from 15 to 10 (-33%).

Manitoba North District

During January 2022, Manitoba North District reported decreases in all occurrence groups over January 2021. The following increases and decreases are being highlighted:

Common Police Activities

This category had an overall decrease of -5% (746 to 711) while the largest increase was in Wellbeing Checks which were up 39% (from 114 to 158).

Crimes Against the Person

Overall there was a decrease of 10% (722 to 652) with specific decreases in Robbery/ Extortion/ Harassment/ Threats down from 157 to 81 (-48%) and Sexual offences down from 56 to 25 (-55%), while Assaults increased from 497 to 539 (+8%).

Crimes Against Property

There was a minimal decrease overall of 3% (802 to 778) and of note, Fraud decreased from 29 to 14 (-52%) and Theft over $5,000 decreased from 30 to 19 (-37%).

Drug Enforcement

Overall the category decreased 48% (63 to 33), with a 69% decrease in Possession (13 to 4) and a 48% decrease in Trafficking (48 to 25).
