Corner Brook RCMP is investigating two separate break and enters that occurred overnight last night at the North Atlantic Gas station in Steady Brook. Thirty-year-old Travis Byrne of Corner Brook was arrested and charged and police are looking to identify a second individual.
At approximately 5:00 a.m., police received a report of a break and enter and attended the business. Evidence gathered at the scene and surveillance footage showed that the business was broken into twice overnight. The first break occurred shortly after 3:00 a.m. and the second occurred at approximately 4:45 a.m.
During the first break and enter, Byrne, who was clearly identified on the store's surveillance footage, broke into the property via the front door. Stolen items, including cash and tobacco, were placed in a black garbage bag. Byrne departed the store in a white SUV, which was observed on surveillance footage.
During the second break and enter, Byrne was again captured on surveillance, along with a second unknown masked individual. Stolen items, including cash, lottery pull tab tickets and several cartons of tobacco, were placed into a gym bag. Both departed on foot and were last seen heading across the Trans-Canada Highway.
Byrne attends court today and is charged with the following criminal offences:
- Break and enter – two counts
- Theft under $5000.00 – two counts
- Theft over $5000.00
- Mischief under $5000.00 (damage to property)
