Montague, Prince Edward Island

News release

A 26-year-old man from Murray Harbour, PEI, has been arrested after driving while impaired, driving dangerously, and flight from police in Montague.

On April 11, 2022, at approximately 6 p.m., members of the Kings District RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle driving dangerously near children in the parking lot of a business on Sullivan Drive. A marked police cruiser located the vehicle near the area and activated its emergency lights and siren. The vehicle failed to stop, and fled from police towards Murray Harbour.

Several officers attended the area and safely initiated a traffic stop. The driver, a 26-year-old man, showed signs of impairment, and was arrested at the scene. The man was brought to the Montague RCMP detachment for further testing, which confirmed his alcohol level was almost double the legal limit.

On April 12, Chase Raymond Gauthier appeared in Georgetown Provincial Court, and was charged with:

  • two counts of impaired driving
  • flight from a police officer
  • dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • driving while prohibited

Chase Raymond Gauthier was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to Georgetown Provincial Court on April 14, 2022. His vehicle was seized and will be impounded for six months at his expense.

The investigation continues.
