Man charged with robbery; other offences

A 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a robbery at a business in Hampton, N.B.

On October 20, 2022, at approximately 4:30 p.m., members of the Hampton RCMP detachment responded to a report of a robbery at a gas station on Main street. A man wearing a mask entered the store, pushed an employee who was behind the counter, and stole merchandise before fleeing on foot. When police arrived at the scene, they quickly located and arrested the suspect, a 38-year-old man from Known to be from the Sussex area. Police were also able to recover the stolen merchandise.

While in police custody, the man attempted to flee. Members were able to take him back into custody within minutes.

On October 21, Thomas Norman David Cole appeared in Saint John Provincial Court and was charged with robbery, wearing a disguise with intent to commit an offence, and escape from lawful custody. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on October 24 for a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.
