Moncton, New Brunswick

News release

A man has been charged with multiple offences in connection with an investigation into financial irregularities amounting to more than a million dollars.

Between August and September 2019, two separate complainants approached the RCMP with allegations of fraud against an individual. In November 2019, the RCMP was also approached by the Financial and Consumer Services Commission (FCNB) of New Brunswick with information regarding several complaints of fraud it had received against the same person. Investigations were initiated into the complaints. In September 2020, the New Brunswick RCMP's Financial Crime Unit took charge of the investigation.

On March 2, 2022, a 57-year-old man was arrested in Edmundston as part of the investigation. He was later released on conditions.

On July 4, Daniel Bard, of Saint-Basile, was charged with the following 19 offences:

  • Fraud over $5,000 (five counts)
  • Theft over $5,000 (five counts)
  • Attempt to commit fraud (one count)
  • Attempted theft
  • Possession of property obtained by crime (six counts)
  • Laundering proceeds of crime

Daniel Bard is scheduled to return to court on September 23, 2022.

"Financial crime investigations can be very complex, and can take time," says S/Sgt. André Pepin with the New Brunswick RCMP. "Our investigators have worked diligently on this file in order to gather the evidence needed to support the charges laid this week in court."

The investigation is ongoing.
