News release

A 37-year-old woman from Bathurst, N.B., and a 53-year-old man from Belledune, have died following a three-vehicle collision in Beresford.

On November 25, 2022, at approximately 6:10 a.m., members of the Chaleur Region RCMP responded to a report of a collision between a tractor trailer and a pickup truck on Highway 11 in Beresford. When police arrived on the scene, they found that a third vehicle, a small car, was also involved in the collision. The driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The driver and sole occupant of the car also died at the scene as a result of her injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured. A garbage truck also sustained minor damage during the incident.

The collision is believed to have occurred when the driver of the pickup truck, travelling southbound, crossed the centreline into the northbound lane of oncoming traffic. The pickup truck then struck the car head on, and a tractor trailer which was also travelling northbound, struck the pickup truck.

Members of the Beresford Fire Department, Ambulance New Brunswick, the New Brunswick Department of Public Safety, and an RCMP collision reconstructionist also attended the scene. A member of the New Brunswick Coroner's Office is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Autopsies will be conducted to determine the man and woman's exact cause of death.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
