A bronze colored small metal pin is displayed next to a metal ruler. A thumb tack is displayed on the other side of the ruler.

Lewisporte RCMP is urging parents to check all Halloween treats received while trick or treating this year following the report of a small metal pin found inside a chocolate bar.

On Monday afternoon, police received a call from Lewisporte Academy informing them of the incident. A student bit into a chocolate bar and discovered a small metal pin inside. The pin stuck into the child's mouth and was safely removed.

A picture of the metal pin, next to a ruler and a thumb tack to serve as a scale of its size, is attached.

While it is not believed that the pin was embedded into the chocolate bar during the manufacturing process, contact was made with the manufacturer to investigate all possibilities.

Parents are encouraged to thoroughly inspect all Halloween treats and to report any suspicious findings to their local police detachment.
