Leduc RCMP Drug Unit charge male following large seizure of drugs

On Sept. 7, 2022, the Leduc RCMP Drug Unit with the assistance of the Leduc Crime Reduction Unit and members of Leduc RCMP, observed a suspicious vehicle in Leduc. A traffic stop was initiated, and both the driver and the passenger were arrested.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of the following:

  • 434 grams of methamphetamin
  • 26 grams of cocaine
  • 2.2 grams of crack cocaine

Other items seized include drug packaging, ammunition, brass knuckles, a scale and Canadian currency.

A 35-year-old individual, a resident of Edmonton, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance – Methamphetamine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance – Cocaine
  • Possession of proceeds of crime
  • Possession of a dangerous weapon
  • Obstruct a police officer
  • Fail to comply with a weapons prohibition

Following a judicial hearing, the 35-year-old individual was remanded into custody. He is schedule to appear in Leduc provincial court on Sept. 22, 2022.

The 35-year-old individual was also in violation of the conditions of his parole, and it was revoked by Corrections Canada.

"This is a significant seizure of drugs that we removed from the streets of the Leduc," says inspector Jeff McBeth, Officer in charge of Leduc Detachment. "There is no doubt that this seizure represents a significant disruption to the drug trafficking activity in the community."
