Leduc RCMP Drug Unit and partners execute search warrants in relation to drug investigation

On March 24, 2022, the Leduc RCMP Drug Unit with the assistance of Leduc's General Investigation Section, Crime Reduction Unit, Wetaskiwin RCMP's General Investigation Section & Crime Reduction Unit, Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT), RCMP Police Dog Services, Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Tactical Unit and Air 1, concluded a three month Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA) trafficking investigation.

Members executed two CDSA search warrants at residences in the area of north Edmonton and the Deer Valley area in Leduc. In addition, two vehicles were searched with one being seized. Three males and one female were arrested.

The investigation led to the seizure of approximately 6 ounces of suspected cocaine and a significant amount of Canadian currency.

A 35-year-old male of Edmonton is charged with the following:

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance - cocaine (x8)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine (x2)
  • Proceeds of crime under $5,000. (x3)
  • Proceeds of crime over $5,000.
  • Drive while prohibited
  • Failing to comply with a release order (x5)

A 45-year-old male of Leduc is charged with the following:

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance - cocaine (x3)
  • Proceeds of crime under $5,000. (x3)
  • Proceeds of crime over $5,000.
  • Possession of a controlled substance - cocaine
  • Failing to comply with a release order

Following a judicial hearing, both males were remanded into custody to appear in Leduc provincial court on March 31, 2022.

A 42-year-old female of Edmonton is charged with the following:

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance - cocaine (x4)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine (x2)
  • Proceeds of crime under $5,000. (x2)
  • Proceeds of crime over $5,000.

Following a judicial hearing, she was release from custody to appear in Leduc provincial court on March 31, 2022.

A 42-year-old male of no fixed address is charged with the following:

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – cocaine
  • Possession of a controlled substance - cocaine
  • Proceeds of crime under $5,000.

He was released from custody to appear in Leduc provincial court on April 28, 2022.

"We will not tolerate the trafficking of drugs in our community and will continue to proactively investigate and charge those who do so," says Sgt. Scott Lande, Acting Operations NCO. "This is an example of the tireless work officers, who work in our detachment area and our partners do every day to keep our communities safe".

ALERT was established and is funded by the Alberta Government and is a compilation of the province's most sophisticated law enforcement resources committed to tackling serious and organized crime.

As these matters are before the courts, no further details will be provided.
