Sedgewick, Alberta

News release

On Oct. 4, 2022, at approximately 4 p.m., Killam RCMP located the suspect related to an ongoing investigation that had been completed in conjunction with the Eastern Alberta District RCMP Crime Reduction Unit into fraud, possession of stolen property and obstruction, outside his residence in Sedgewick. The 24-year-old male suspect fled into his residence. Killam RCMP established containment of the residence and efforts to have the suspect surrender to police were unsuccessful. Further investigation led to information that the male may have been in possession of firearms and as a result, several area residences were evacuated for public safety.

RCMP Emergency Response Team officers attended and assisted with containment. At approximately 8 p.m., the suspect was arrested in the alleyway behind his residence when he attempted to flee the area.

A 24-year-old individual, a resident of Sedgewick, is charged with the following:

  • Possession of stolen credit cards (x6)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (x7)
  • Forgery (x2)

Following a judicial hearing, the individual was released on cash bail with conditions to attend Killam provincial court on Nov. 1, 2022.

As this matter is now before the courts, no further details can be provided.
