Innisfail RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit makes arrest under the Cannabis Act

On Feb. 3, 2022, a member of the Innisfail Integrated Traffic Unit performed a traffic stop on a male driver for speeding. The officer, based on numerous indicators, entered into a drug trafficking investigation and the driver was arrested. During the search of the vehicle, the officer found 440 marijuana plants, worth an approximated value of $440,000. Other drugs, and paraphernalia were also found.

The suspect, a 56-year-old Calgary man, was charged with the following:

  • Exceeding Maximum Prescribed Speed on Highway, under the Traffic Safety Act
  • Distribution of budding or flowering plants, or more than four cannabis plant, under the Cannabis Act

His next court appearance is scheduled on March 7, 2022, at Didsbury Provincial Court.

The Integrated Traffic Unit would like to remind you that, even if cannabis and cannabis products are legal in Canada.
