Harbour Grace RCMP responds to residential disturbance; man faces charges, including assault of a police officer with a weapon

A 32-year-old St. John's man was arrested by Harbour Grace RCMP following a residential disturbance in Harbour Grace on May 25, 2022. He faces a number of criminal charges, including assaulting a police officer.

At approximately 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, police received the report and attended the residence. Officers located a man who was involved in the disturbance outside of the home and informed him of his arrest. He took off on foot and an officer, who gave chase on foot, caught up with him a short distance away in a wooded area. Another officer attended in a vehicle. The man held a large boulder over his head, threatening an officer. He was ordered to drop the rock and eventually did so and fled again on foot. He was taken into custody minutes later. While in custody, the man assaulted two other officers.

He was later released from police custody and faces charges of:

  • Resisting arrest
  • Uttering threats against a person – six counts
  • Uttering threats against property
  • Assaulting a police officer with a weapon
  • Assaulting a police officer – two counts
  • Breach of a probation order

He is scheduled to attend court at a later date.
