Harbour Grace RCMP conducts traffic stop; driver under investigation for drug-impaired driving

An 18-year-old man remains under investigation by Harbour Grace RCMP for drug impaired driving following a traffic stop conducted on May 13, 2022.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Friday, an officer on patrol observed a vehicle driving without its headlights illuminated and at a high rate of speed on Water Street in Harbour Grace. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver showed signs of cannabis impairment. He tested positive for cannabis on roadside drug screening equipment and was arrested for impaired driving. The man was provided a blood demand and a sample of his blood was collected at the Carbonear General Hospital. Officers await the results of the blood sample to determine if charges of impaired driving are appropriate.

The investigation is continuing.
