Halifax District RCMP investigate fatal collision

Halifax District RCMP is investigating a fatal vehicle collision that occurred on Hwy. 103 in Lakeside.

On October 6, at approximately 1 p.m., Halifax District RCMP, Halifax Regional Police, fire services and EHS responded to a report of a vehicle collision on Hwy. 103 in Lakeside. Officers learned that a Santa Fe, travelling east, crossed the median and collided head on with a Jeep Patriot that was travelling west on the highway. The weather is believed to have been a factor in the collision.

The driver of the Jeep Patriot, a 35-year-old Bridgewater woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The rear passenger of the Jeep Patriot, a 5-year-old Bridgewater child, suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS.

The driver of the Santa Fe, a 62-year-old Upper Tantallon man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger of the Santa Fe, a 53-year-old Upper Tantallon woman, suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Hwy. 103 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
