News release

Following an extensive 5-day search for a missing man, Happy Valley-Goose Bay Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) successfully located the individual on Friday evening (September 30, 2022).

The investigation, which originated with the Military Police on Sunday, September 25, 2022, was turned over to Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP on September 26, 2022.

Eager to assist, the GSAR team was immediately engaged and located the missing person's vehicle on September 27th. Working tirelessly through morning and night, probing heavily wooded areas, isolated terrain and increasingly challenging weather conditions, the team refused to give up. The local knowledge and expertise of this team, along with their persistent search efforts throughout the week, allowed for the safe location of the missing person, who likely would not have been able to withstand the conditions for another night.

The individual was safely transported for medical attention.

RCMP NL thanks Happy Valley-Goose Bay Ground Search and Rescue and all those who assisted in the successful search and safe rescue of the missing man. To all those who volunteer throughout the Province on the numerous search and rescue teams, thank you for what you do.
