Grande Prairie RCMP make an arrest in attempted bank robbery

On Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at approximately 2:30 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP with assistance of Grande Prairie Crime Reduction Unit and Grande Prairie Police Dog Services responded to a report of a robbery at the Scotiabank located in the downtown core.

At approximately 2 p.m., a male suspect entered the bank demanding a large amount of cash and that he was in possession of explosives. Officers immediately responded and were able to arrest the male and take him into custody.

A subsequent search of the area and the male revealed the male was not in possession of any explosives.

A 42-year-old individual, of Grande Prairie, was charged with one count of robbery.

Following a judicial release hearing. The 42-year-old individual was remanded into custody to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial court on Aug. 3, 2022.
