Forty-year-old Michael Fillier was arrested by Harbour Grace RCMP on June 21, 2022, and faces a number of charges, including flight from police.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, police received a report of an erratic driver in Carbonear. Officers located the described vehicle on the Veterans Memorial Highway and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled from police in a dangerous manner. The driver of the vehicle was identified by police as Fillier. In the interest of public safety, officers did not pursue the vehicle.

Shortly after, at approximately 8:30 p.m., police received a report of a suspicious person, matching Fillier's description, trespassing in the backyard of a residential property. Police responded and observed Fillier hopping over a guardrail and down over an embankment to evade police. He was arrested without incident. He showed signs of drug-impairment and was transported to the detachment where he completed a drug influence evaluation. Officers await the results of the testing to determine if charges of drug-impaired driving are appropriate.

The vehicle Fillier was driving, a black four-door 2015 BMW, licence plate #JPF217, has not been located. Police ask the public to report any sightings of the vehicle to Harbour Grace RCMP by calling 709-596-5014.

Fillier attended court on June 22 and was charged with the following offences:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Flight from police
  • Failing to comply with a condition of a court release order

He was remanded into custody and will appear in court at a later date.
