Clarenville RCMP responds to fatal ATV crash near Petley, operator not wearing helmet

A 33-year-old man, who was not wearing a helmet, is deceased following an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crash that occurred on a woods road near Petley on May 22, 2022.

At approximately 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, police received the report of the crash. The man was found on the roadway near an ATV that was extensively damaged. He was transported to Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville for medical attention where he later died.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is engaged and the investigation into the cause of the crash and the suspected use of alcohol is continuing.

So far this year, seven people have died during off road vehicle incidents in areas policed by RCMP NL.
