A 27-year-old individual and a 49-year-old individual, both residents of Wetaskiwin, have been charged with one count of first-degree murder in the death of Brian Dupe (63).

They have both been remanded in custody with their next court appearances set for Nov. 1, 2022, at Wetaskiwin provincial court.

As this matter is now before the courts, RCMP are not able to comment further.

Investigators have arrested a 27-year-old individual on the outstanding warrant for first-degree murder of Brian Dupe.

At approximately 4:15 p.m., Oct. 26, 2022, the 27-year-old individual was located and arrested in Millet, Alta. by the Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit with the assistance of Wetaskiwin Detachment, Maskwacis Detachment, and Major Crimes. The 27-year-old individual was taken into custody without incident and will have a bail hearing on the morning of Oct. 27, 2022.

The 49-year-old individual has been remanded into custody on a charge of first-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on Nov. 1, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing and Alberta RCMP are grateful for the public's help in identifying and locating the accused.

Wetaskiwin RCMP and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit have arrested one man and are searching for another in relation to the murder of Brian Dupe, age 63 of Wetaskiwin.

On Oct. 20, 2022, Wetaskiwin RCMP received a report that Brian Michael Dupe, 63, was missing and had not been seen since Oct. 14, 2022. An investigation was launched, and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was brought in to assist.

Through the course of the investigation and with information received from the public, human remains believed to be Brian Dupe were located in a rural area west of Alder Flats, Alta. late in the evening of Oct. 22, 2022. An autopsy was completed by the Chief Medical Examiners Office on Oct. 24, 2022, which confirmed the identity of the remains is that of Mr. Dupe.

Investigators have obtained a warrant for a 27-year-old for first-degree murder and are asking for the public's assistance to locate him. The 27-year-old individual was last seen in Wetaskiwin on Oct. 24, 2022, when he was driving a blue 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup with Alberta licence plate BYK-4577.

In addition to the arrest warrant, RCMP have arrested a second male suspect in this investigation. Charges are pending against this individual, and an update is expected once charges have been sworn and a court date set.

The Alberta RCMP offers condolences to the family of Brian Dupe and pledges to continue to work to hold accountable the individuals responsible for his death. The 27-year-old individual may be armed and is considered dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged not to approach him and to immediately call 911.

Central Alberta RCMP request assistance to locate missing adult male

The Wetaskiwin RCMP, with the assistance of Alberta's Serious Crimes Branch, and Wetaskiwin General Investigation Section members, continue to investigate the disappearance of 63-year-old Brian Michael Dupe of Wetaskiwin, Alta.

On Oc. 20, 2022. at 10 p.m., the Wetaskiwin RCMP responded to the report of Brian missing from contact with friends and family, having not been heard from since Oct. 14, 2022.

At the time of Brian's disappearance, he was without a permanent residence and frequenting social service agencies within and around Wetaskiwin. The Alberta RCMP wish to locate Brian to confirm his health and well-being.

Brian Dupe is described as:

  • Height: 175 cm (5 feet 8 inches tall)
  • Weight: 77 kg (170 pounds)
  • Hair: Brown
  • Eyes: Brown
  • Wearing: Jeans, sweats, and black leather jacket
