Boyle RCMP arrest male on outstanding warrant

On June 22, 2022, Boyle RCMP observed a vehicle in Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement being operated by a male known to be wanted on an outstanding warrant. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the vehicle when it fled into a field, and both the wanted male and vehicle passenger abandoned the vehicle before fleeing on foot.

Boyle RCMP worked alongside officers from Eastern Albert District RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, RCMP Police Dog Services, and Smoky Lake RCMP to locate and arrest both suspects. While tracking both of the suspects through the rural terrain, which included a large swamp, Police Dog Services and responding officers located a rifle, which was seized in close proximity to where the suspects were arrested.

A 37-year-old individual, of Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement, was charged with the following:

• Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
• Flight from police officer
• Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order

The 37-year-old individual was also arrested on his outstanding warrant for the following charges:

• Unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order (x2)
• Careless use of a firearm
• Failing to comply with release order

The 37-year-old individual was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to appear at St. Albert Provincial Court on June 27, 2022.

A 31-year-old individual, of Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement, was charged with the following:

• Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
• Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order

The 31-year-old individual is pending release on cash bail and is scheduled to appear in Boyle Provincial Court on July 26, 2022.

"This was a great example of several detachments and specialized units within Eastern Alberta District working in consultation with one another to locate a known offender," says Corporal Gavin Bergey, acting detachment commander of the Boyle RCMP. "We strive as a detachment to target prolific offenders and disrupt criminal activities."
