News release

Bell Island RCMP is investigating an armed robbery that occurred last night at a convenience store on Fleming Street.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., a masked man entered Jim Yicks' Store on Bell Island with a weapon in hand. He demanded money, removed a cash register from the store and fled the scene on foot.

The man is described as Caucasian, approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall. He was wearing a dark coloured coat and pants and his face was covered. Police learned that the suspect passed by an unknown member of the public just prior to entering the store and officers would like to speak with that man to gain any further information he may have.

The cash register was located a short distance away, damaged and emptied. It was seized by police as part of the investigation. The RCMP East District General Investigation Section has been engaged and the investigation is continuing.
