Barrington RCMP charge man with firearms offences

Barrington RCMP has charged a man with firearms offences after an incident in Lower Clark's Harbour.

On December 20, 2022, at approximately 6 p.m., Barrington RCMP responded to a report of a man having fired shots on a property on Centreville South Side Rd. in Lower Clark's Harbour. RCMP officers learned that the man was involved in a dispute with five other people, had fired shots into the air and then fled the property. No one was injured during the incident.

Barrington RCMP officers, with assistance from the Nova Scotia RCMP Emergency Response Team, RCMP Police Dog Services and Shelburne RCMP officers, began securing the area and searching for the man. A Dangerous Person Emergency Alert was issued within a 60km radius of Lower Clark's Harbour.

At approximately 12:05 a.m., the Nova Scotia RCMP ERT located the man at a home on Centreville South Side Rd. and after a short negotiation, the man surrendered peacefully and was safely arrested.

Steven Edward Goreham, 52, of Lower Clark's Harbour, has been charged with Careless Use of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Uttering Threats. Goreham was remanded into custody and will appear in Shelburne Provincial Court today.

An RCMP Police Dog team located the shotgun, believed to have been used in this incident, at the original scene where the shots were fired.

The investigation is ongoing.
