On Nov. 25, 2022, Breton RCMP responded to a report of a sudden death at a rural location in Wetaskiwin County. As the investigation developed, officers from the Central Alberta District GIS Unit and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit were deployed and took carriage of the investigation. The deceased was identified as 44-year-old Wetaskiwin County resident Janet Magnuson.
As a result of an investigation into the incident, on Dec. 16, 2022, 44-year-old Wetaskiwin County resident was arrested and charge with first-degree murder.
The 44-year-old individual has been taken before a justice of the peace and remanded in custody with his next court appearance set for Dec. 20, 2022, at Drayton Valley provincial court.
