Airdrie RCMP lay charges in catalytic converter thefts

On Nov. 24 and 25, 2022, Airdrie RCMP received multiple reports of catalytic converter thefts in the Big Springs neighbourhood and in the Hamlet of Balzac, Alta. Airdrie Crime Reduction Unit took carriage of the investigations and on Nov. 30, 2022, arrested a 46-year-old individual.

The 46-year-old individual, of no fixed address, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Mischief Under $5000 x 4
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
  • Possession of Break-In Instruments
  • Theft Over $5000 x 3
  • Mischief Over $5000

The individual has also been charged with three counts of operating a motor vehicle without a license plate attached, contrary to the provisions of the Traffic Safety Act.

The individual was brought before a justice of the peace and was released on a $1500 no cash recognizance with conditions. The individual is to appear in Airdrie provincial court on Dec. 8, 2022.

Airdrie RCMP have seized over $20,000 in assets during the course of this investigation, including a 2017 Ford F-150.
