48-year-old man dies following collision between a car and a motorcycle

A 48-year-old man from Kings County, PEI, has died following a collision between a car and a motorcycle on Route 206 in Iona.

On August 5, 2022, at approximately 12:20 a.m., members of the King's District RCMP, Belfast Fire Department, and Island EMS responded to a report of a collision involving a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of Route 23 and Route 206.

The collision is believed to have occurred when the motorcycle struck the car while travelling through the intersection. The 48-year-old man, who was the driver and sole occupant of the motorcycle, died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The two occupants of the car were not injured, and administered first aid to the motorcycle driver until paramedics arrived.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist and a member of the PEI Coroner's office are assisting with the ongoing investigation. Traffic was diverted around the area for a short period, but the roads have since fully re-opened. Members of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure assisted at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and an autopsy will be scheduled to determine the man's exact cause of death.
