News release

A 38-year-old man from Fredericton, N.B., has been charged following a theft of a vehicle and flight from police in the Fredericton, Minto and Salisbury areas.

On November 2, 2022, at approximately 8 a.m., members of the New Brunswick RCMP received a report from the Fredericton Police Force that a vehicle that had been stolen from Fredericton, had been located in the Minto region. Members of the Fredericton Police Force attempted to arrest the individual in Minto, but he fled from police in the stolen vehicle.

Members of the New Brunswick RCMP located a vehicle matching the description of the one that was stolen, travelling southbound on Route 10 before turning eastbound on Highway 2. The driver failed to stop for police several times, who were travelling in marked RCMP vehicles with emergency lights and sirens activated.

A short time later, police set out a tire deflation device near Salisbury, and it was successful in stopping the fleeing vehicle. The driver, a 38-year-old man, was arrested at the scene.

On November 3, Daniel Andrew Murphy appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand and was charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Flight from police
  • Resisting arrest

He was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to return to court on November 7 for a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.
